We had a junk garage sale yesterday. Not only did we get rid of a bunch of stuff, we even made money doing it! Double bonus!
Carsen sold lemonade and rice crispy bars.
His cash register drawer got so full that he could hardly close it.
He ended up doing well... he made about $10!
Carsen doesn't have allowence yet (we're going to start soon...) so this is his first "real" money. He has no concept of money what-so-ever. When we were counting it, I asked him what he was going to buy. Carsen said: "I want to buy another rice crispy bar!". Smart boy.
He brought some of his money to Sunday School and church today, b/c we told him that he had to give some of his earnings to God. He did so very happily!
Amy, we had a neat system for allowance. It's the J-O-Y idea: Jesus, Others, You. We gave each of our kids a small plastic chest with three drawers in it. The top drawer belonged to Jesus (Tithe). The middle drawer was for others (gifts for friends, offerings for missionaries, etc.)and the last drawer was for themselves (treats, games, clothes & misc. when they got older). We helped them to divide the money as soon as we gave it to them, until they could do it themselves. It was a very positive learning/training experience for all of us! Julie
ReplyDeleteVery cool!! We just finished taking Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University class. It's a faith-based financial class and we really loved it. He has a kit made just for kids that uses the give/save/spend concept for their "commissions" (he doesn't call it an allowance). We're ordering one on the Dave Ramsey website for Paige's b-day (they're $10). I also have the audio CD of Dave's class about finances for kids. If you'd like to borrow it, let me know!
